The Trial in front of Pontius Pilate

The Roman Trial

Some Interesting Points:

1. Early in the morning the Sanhedrin brought Jesus to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Rome. Pilate wanted to release Jesus, as demonstrated by his repeated declarations that Jesus was innocent, trying to push him off onto Herod, and trying to get the crowd to release him. Finally he washed his hands in front of the crowd and said Jesus’ blood would not be on him.

2. This crowd had a very different character from the one during Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem a mere five days before.

3. Jesus admitted to being a king, but his kingdom was not of this world.
