Alternative Naturalistic Theories #6: Wrong Tomb Alternative Naturalistic Theories to the Resurrection
Wrong
Tomb
This theory
states that the women, and everyone else, went to the wrong tomb. This theory
was first put forth by Professor Kirsopp Lake (1872-1946).
Problems:
1. The
women, who were the first visitors to the empty tomb on Sunday morning, had
just seen Jesus buried at the tomb on Friday afternoon. Would they forget where
it was?
2. Peter
and John also made the same mistake.
3. The
Sanhedrin and any other enemies also went to the wrong tomb.
4. Joseph
of Arimathea must have forgotten where the tomb, his own property, was located
once the stories of the resurrection began to be preached.
