What did Jesus Believe and Say about Himself?

He  said he could forgive sin:

Matthew 9:2-3: Some men brought him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven."

At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, "This fellow is blaspheming!" (NIV)

Luke 7:47-48: [the woman who poured ointment on  Jesus' feet at the house of Simon the Pharisee] "...Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven -- for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."

Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." (NIV)

He allowed others to call him Christ (Greek for "Messiah"):

Matthew 16:15-20: [Jesus talking] "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say that I am?"

Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you taht you are Peter,  and onthis rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

He called himself God:

John 10:30-33: [Jesus said] "I and the Father are one." The Jews when they heard this picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"

"We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but because you, a mere man, claim to be God." (NIV)

John 5: 17-18: Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working." For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (NIV)

John 8: 58-59: "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abrahan was born, I am!" At this they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. (NIV)

John 5: 23-24: "... That all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him. I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." (NIV)

John 8: 19: "You do not know me or my Father," Jesus replied. "If you knew me, you would know my Father also." (NIV)

John 14: 1: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me." (NIV)

John 14: 8-9: Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." Jesus answered, "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?" (NIV)
